Cowboy Butts Drive Me Nuts

Yee-haw!

Drawing, drawing, drawling?

The Detroit Shoppe asked the two Senior Studios to design posters representing Detroit. They are located in Somerset and sell Michigan made products and memorabilia. I have a great love for the city and I feel honored to be given this opportunity to create something that I feel passionate about.

I wanted to represent a latin phrase that the city used long ago that I find very powerful to this day:
"SPERAMUS MELIORA; RESURGET CINERIBUS."
"WE HOPE FOR BETTER THINGS; IT SHALL RISE FROM THE ASHES."

The image is of Detroit's supporters lifting the city.

Hagopian Rug Design Submissions

Here are my designs for the 23rd annual Hagopian Rug Design Competition. This year's theme is capturing the essence of Michigan. The first one on the left represents the creativity coming from the city of Detroit and the new hope it brings. The design on the right represents two things that Michigan is well known for, its industry and coastline.

Wish me luck!

Process...

Here is the process of my second piece for my series "Fashionistas Around the World."
She's Spanish :)

Will post final images someday.. Still need to touch up a few things.

Process..

Here's a new series I am working on. Fashionistas Around the World!
I want to incorporate different techniques, such as appliqué, embroidery, and beading to my fashion illustrations. I thought it would be a great element that emphasized the fabrics and textures from different countries.

I present Miss India:

Cutting away and making sure everything fits into place.

My favourite part! Sewing!

And finally, some embellishment!

I will post a final photo after it is %100 complete.

The Chair!

Here it is! Many hours of blood, sweat, and tears. This is my pride and joy, my baby, and great success of the semester.

I love that Patrick Daly. Not only did he take great photos of my chair, but supported me in every way possible throughout the process.

Advance Illustration & Design Brochure

This assignment was to design a fake brochure for an artist's show. We got to choose anyone we wanted dead or alive and I chose my inspiration, Alphonse Mucha. This was a fun final project! 1. I got to look at Mucha all day long and 2. I discovered I have somewhat of a sense of Design! I chose a fun accordion-fold format that was interesting to look at in your hands, but REALLY fun to look at all spread out.

Critique

First critique of the week went well! Here is how I displayed a few of the prints I made. (The wall wasn't big enough to put everything up at once)

Fabulous Fabrics for Function!

So here it is! Our final for this class was to do some research and design a pattern off of the subject that inspired us. I chose two different cultures to get inspiration from, the Mayans and Samoans. I absolutely love learning about Mayans and have just recently discovered the beautiful Samoan tattoos! So combining the two cultures I came up with this pattern and silk-screened it with dyes on a shear white chiffon. It's really comfortable and perfect for the summer! I can't wait until I can wear it out!

Silk-Screening

Here's a sneak peek of my final piece for Fabulous Fabrics for Function! Try saying that 3 times..

Book Cover Final

Here is one out of five final pieces completed! The assignment was to illustrate a book cover. Our instructor, Cathy Gendron, gave us this heart-wrenching story to read, which was about a boy who loses his entire family in a tsunami. Although it was very sad, I really enjoy it. (Don't worry it's a happy ending)

The Chair!

In case you were wondering. The Chair is finished and will be out on display sometime this week in the Illustration hallway. Go check it out, but may God save your soul if you sit in it. I will post detailed images soon.

On a side note, the chair will have a friend. Keep an eyeball out for my last project of the semester.

Check this out!

While volunteering for Fashion in Detroit back in October, I met two inspiring designers promoting this beautiful product! Fellow CCS alum, Brianna Kenyon, and her creative partner, Nava Wiegert designed an interactive piece of jewelry. What holds it together and keeps it from falling apart is you/your finger.

These rings were just way too unique to keep secret!
Check out their website for a better description of their concept!
