Fabric!

Ahh! It's been a while since I have updated and I haven't been keeping my promise..

Things are going super well over here on the East Coast and especially at Reebok. I am working on some exciting projects and if all goes well I will be able to see my prints on products! Please keep your fingers crossed that my work isn't dropped along the way.. A lot can happen from here on out.

Anyways! Here is a little sneak-peek of some of the prints I have been designing for my own use. Reebok has been kind enough to allow me to use their sublimation printer. That means I can print my own yardage! I know... how cool is that?? It's amazing and I am spoiled rotten!

By the end of this month I am planning to have at least a couple yards of each print.

By the way: I have updated my website recently. Check it out!

Ladies!

More to come. Sadly... my scanner isn't functioning so I have to wait awhile before I can scan and color them. Yesterday I scanned one at work and when I got home the file was corrupted... [sadface]. I will try again tomorrow.

Calendar Girl

Ah finally some artwork I can show! Now that I am comfortable and situated in Boston, I decided that it is now time to focus on a little project other than for work. So I am going to start a calendar! Keep checking back everyday because I will be posting frequently now!

Website update.

http://cargocollective.com/veronicabay

Sorry I have been neglecting my blog... I swear I have been drawing and designing every single day! Unfortunately I cannot show anything I do for work! And to top it off my scanner isn't working anymore so the sketches that I have been doing for fun won't be posted for a while...

Rite of Passage Teaser!

FINALLY A REAL PHOTO of the "Never-Ending-Project."

Here is one photo out of many beautiful photos by the talented Kirstin of the lovely Andrea. I am so happy with how they have turned out so far and cannot wait to see the rest of them. I'll let you know when I post them up on my website, but for the meantime I give you only one. If you're my facebook friend you may see some others in the photos I am tagged in, but if you like surprises... then wait!

I'm alive!

Hallo friends. I've been a very busy girl.. well at least I was a couple weeks ago. Since then I have graduated from the College of Creative Studies, had my senior show, and got a job! I ended up getting the Apprenticeship at Reebok so I will be moving to Boston in July and living there until further notice (1+ years?). I am overwhelmed with the change that will be taking place so I apologize for my lack of updates. I just need to get my life in order and figure out all this relocation stuff!

Here are a couple of photos of my show if you weren't able to make it. As always, the show was a smashing success and a well-deserved celebration for me and fellow classmates! (As always the ever so handsome Patrick Daly shot these photos for me)

I appreciate all the support my family, friends, and followers have given me over these past 4 years. I can't wait to see what happens next! I'll keep ya posted!

Fashionista Series

This is the last Fashionista!

All of them will be proudly displayed at the College for Creative Studies Student Exhibition.
If you're interested in going the show it will be open to the public from May 14th through the first week of June or something. You can find my work and many other talented people on the 10th floor in the Illustration department.

FINALLY!

600+ yards of custom dyed thread
30 yards of macramé cord
&
250+ hours of my life that I will never get back..

With that said... this nightmare of a project is finally finished. I am not really sure how I feel at this point. It was a draining process and towards the end it got really difficult to keep myself excited about it. I think I just need to hide it away for a couple weeks and then see if I can look at it without feeling regret. Once I get some real photos of it I will repost them.

STILL STITCHING!@#$%

Here's a quick little e-"Thank You" card I did for the people who interviewed me at Converse. It was a nice little break from working on finals all week.
And onto the NEVER ENDING PROJECT.......

Some more detail shots.... 1.5months later... still not finished, BUT I can proudly say that I am ALMOST finished.

Back detail... this project has made me realize that having ambition is a curse.

FUN FACT: I have already used OVER 300 yards of custom dyed thread...
I HAVE 6 days left to finish this. :(

Viewbook Illustrations

"Detroit has such a nice atmosphere of creativity and enrichment."

"There's many different people and places to experience, it's good to be where people have interest in that arts."

Finished!

Hands holding hands, pointing to hands..

DKIII asked a few of us to do a couple of illustrations for one of the CCS viewbooks. They are all Detroit community related and overall open to our interpretation. One of the great things about CCS is their student involvement when it comes to these kinds of opportunities.

Getting these drawings done and inked.

Detail of a "tight-knit community."

Wrap twice, stitch one, and repeat.. FOREVER!

This is a sneak peak of one of my finals. If my hands come out of this without getting carpal tunnel I will thank some higher entity!

Dying with indigo!

Indigo dying!

Two of my samples.

Rowland Ricketts came to CCS last week to give a shibori workshop and presentation. I was lucky enough to participate in it and learn from his techniques. It was such a great experience and I left feeling so inspired and itching to dye fabric again!

Check out his website! He has beautiful work and those of you who aren't into fabrics and what not it still is very inspiring and one could gain a lot of appreciation for what he does.

Detroit!

Close to completion!
I am still unsure about the type and I don't think I am going to keep the Spirit of Detroit/sun in there, but I am much happier with this color.

The phrase is a shortened english version of "Speramus meliora; Resurget aneribus." Which means "We hope for better things; It will arise from the ashes." As much as I would have loved to put the whole phrase in there, it just didn't work out and I would have liked.

Done and sent.
Here's 1/5 pages from my project. I sent it off last night and hope it arrived in one piece! Feels good to finally be done.

Still working...

Another graphic for Reebok. This one is inspired by bioluminescent fungi! You know.. that Fern Gully crap and pretty stuff in Avatar! I had a lot of fun drawing this one out (for obvious reasons). Not sure if my theme on the whole nature thing is too out there for Reebok, but I hope they dig it! They said to have fun and not be afraid to be quirky. Sooo here we go! Two more designs left and I am ready to send it off.

I can't wait to sleep!

Reebok Submission

I have been staying up for many hours this week to get this project finished! I am applying for the Reebok apprenticeship and they have all their applicants do specific projects for the particular area they wish to work in. I am doing Product Graphic Design and here are a couple designs I have done. My collection is inspired by natural phenomenon. These two graphics were influenced by the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).

I have a lot of work head of me, but I am enjoying the challenge.
Wish me luck!

Cowboy Butts Drive Me Nuts

Yee-haw!

Drawing, drawing, drawling?

The Detroit Shoppe asked the two Senior Studios to design posters representing Detroit. They are located in Somerset and sell Michigan made products and memorabilia. I have a great love for the city and I feel honored to be given this opportunity to create something that I feel passionate about.

I wanted to represent a latin phrase that the city used long ago that I find very powerful to this day:
"SPERAMUS MELIORA; RESURGET CINERIBUS."
"WE HOPE FOR BETTER THINGS; IT SHALL RISE FROM THE ASHES."

The image is of Detroit's supporters lifting the city.
